Description

Glenville State University invites applications for a full-time staff librarian to begin as early as January 2024 but no later than August 2024.

Examples of Duties

 

  • Perform professional library duties that require knowledge of library policies, procedures, reference services, statistics, archival operations, and cataloging.
  • Oversee student assistant schedules and assignments. 
  • Creates campus-wide information literacy programs for first-year students.
  • Support and advance research activities.
  • Delivers classroom instruction to strengthen information literacy skills.
  • Collaborate and consult with faculty and researchers in analyzing, identifying, and fulfilling their information needs.
  • Select, organize, and facilitate access to information in a variety of formats.
  • Participate in marketing and public relations efforts to promote library usage.
  • Assist in social media operations, website development, event planning, and fund-raising.
  • Monitor budgets and perform day-to-day purchases with state-issued P-card.
  • Assist in obtaining grants.
  • Communicate with vendors.
  • Evaluate potential database acquisitions.
  • Fosters a culture of service, diversity, and inclusion in support of the university, students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community.
  • Establish meaningful and measurable goals for library operations.
  • Work flexible hours (during the regular semester, the workday could begin as early as 7:45 am, end as late as 8 pm, and include 12-8 pm on selected Sundays).

Typical Qualifications

Requires an ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science. Qualified individuals currently enrolled in such a program of study will also be considered. One to two years of experience working in an academic library as well as proven organizational, computer, and communication skills are also required. Strong academic background with an undergraduate major in the humanities and/or social sciences is desired.
